Welcome to The Wild Path

I’m so glad you’re here. This space is for anyone seeking a slower, more soulful approach to creativity.

I’m Helen Hallows, a UK-based mixed-media nature artist. I work with ink, colour, and stitch to create landscapes that follow the rhythm of the seasons. My art tells quiet stories, of light shifting, leaves falling, and the deep pulse of the natural world.

Over time, I’ve learned how to care for my creative self. I’ve built a practice rooted in intention, presence, and imperfection. Now, I share that practice with others—through courses, workshops, and here, in this space.

What You’ll Find Here

This Substack is part studio journal, part creative companion, and part gentle guide.

Here’s what you can expect:

🌿 Free subscription:
You’ll receive studio news, updates on upcoming courses, event invitations, and reflections from behind the scenes of my creative life.

🌿 Paid subscription:
Each month, I’ll send you a nourishing post to support your own creative journey. I’ll help you set intentions, build a sustainable practice, and let go of perfectionism. You’ll learn to embrace failure, listen inwardly, and find flow again.

This is for anyone seeking a gentler way to make art, and a truer way to be.

Why I’m Here

I’m an artist, writer, and teacher. I’m walking through midlife with muddy boots, a full heart, and an eye turned toward the ever-changing sky.

This space was born from my own becoming. From the ache of burnout and the quiet joy of starting again. From menopause, divorce, and the unraveling of certainty. From the call to create not just art, but a life that feels cyclical, meaningful, and real.

Nature is my teacher. Art is my way of listening.

(The Blessing - Helen Hallows)

Why subscribe?

For the quiet makers, the season-watchers, the midlife wanderers.

My art is landscapes that honour the seasons and the quiet truths nature teaches us; about change, resilience, and returning.

For the past 15 years, I’ve led workshops and face-to-face courses, sharing my techniques for mixed-media artwork and sketchbook creation. Over time, I’ve witnessed how many artists, especially women, struggle with self-doubt, creative block, and the pressure to make ‘perfect’ work. We lose our way. We stop trusting our voice.

This space was born in response.

It’s a home for Soulful Creatives. It is a place to reflect, reconnect, and rekindle your creative practice with tenderness and courage.

Here, I share:

🌿 Written reflections on art, nature, and midlife transitions
🌿 Studio insights and behind-the-scenes glimpses into my process
🌿 Mini-lessons and monthly creative prompts to help you find flow
🌿 Gentle guidance for letting go of perfectionism and nurturing artist self-care

I don’t have all the answers but I do believe in walking together. In honesty. In slowness. In the quiet power of making things with our hands and hearts.

Let’s go gently.
Let’s go together.
